Rydal is an unincorporated community in Bartow County, Georgia, in the rolling countryside of the state's northwestern corner, about thirteen miles north of Cartersville. The community is best understood through its older name: Pine Log. That settlement began as a Cherokee village along Pine Log Creek, established before the county's modern history, and it remained a recognized community as European-American settlement spread through the area in the 19th century. Today the entire surrounding area is commonly called Rydal, and the two names are intertwined in local identity. The Rydal name itself arrived with the railroad. When the Louisville and Nashville Railroad completed its line between Cartersville and Knoxville in 1906, a flag station was built to serve the Pine Log community and given the name Rydal. That station brought the area into the regional rail network and gave the community its modern label, even as the population remained small and spread across farmland and woods. Roughly 3,000 people live in the wider Rydal area, making it a genuinely rural place by Georgia standards. Life in Rydal is centered on the land. Homes sit on acreage along county roads, churches anchor community life, and Pine Log Elementary School carries the older settlement's name forward into the present. For services, shopping, and larger events, residents rely on Cartersville and Adairsville, both within easy reach, while Interstate 75 passes through the county to connect the area to Atlanta and Chattanooga. The Pine Log Creek Trail gives the community a beloved outdoor asset, winding through woodlands to a former quarry pond.
